Salon Olivine is beautiful and has the most kind hearted staff. A true gem.
So appreciative of the way Madison approached my 3 year old daughter’s first haircut. My daughter can be really challenging when it comes to her hair. Madison kept things simple and made a positive experience the priority. We will definitely be back.

Do you offer men's haircuts? We do offer men's haircuts. We set our haircut prices according to how long the service takes. We offer a variety of haircut options, ranging from child and youth, up to standard +. For anyone with shorter hair, we would recommend booking a Standard Cut -15 min.
-
Should I wash my hair before my appointment? For most services at Salon Olivine, there's no need to wash your hair before your appointment. If you're getting bleach applied directly to your scalp, we recommend not washing your hair for at least 24 hours beforehand. The natural oils on your scalp act as a protective barrier, helping to reduce irritation. For haircuts, feel free to arrive as you are—we’ll treat you to a luxurious shampoo experience that’s part of the service! When it comes to color treatments, it’s best if your hair isn’t freshly washed but also not too dirty. If you feel like you need a wash, go ahead, but otherwise, let our advanced La Bio color system work its magic!

-
How many hairstylists do you have?We have 6 stylists and 2 apprentices, and 1 hairstylist' assistant.
-
What is the difference between a stylist and a master stylist? The main difference between the two are training and experience. An apprentice, or junior level stylist have less industry experience and training. As stylists continue their education and training, building up their client list as they go, they will increase through the different levels of hairstylist until they reach the status of master stylist. A top stylist will usually have 3+years experience and an established client base. A senior stylist should be able to handle all situations and have a solid and growing clientele. In order to become a master stylist you need to have years of experience and training and serve in a leadership role in their salon. On top of their usual stylist duties, they provide training and mentoring to the apprentice and junior stylists on the team. They tend to have learned how to master several different techniques and methods of haircuts through years of experience, which is why they tend to cost more than a junior or senior stylist.
-
Do your hairstylists specialize in any specific areas? All of our hairstylists are well trained and passionate about their craft. Some of our stylists have chosen to specialize in specific areas, such as extensions, highlighting, precision cutting, blonding and balayage.
-
Why is pricing different with different stylists?Pricing varies based on skill level. At Salon Olivine, we have a three tiered pricing strategy and the amount you are charged depends on the level of stylist doing your hair. Apprentice/Junior stylists charge a lower fee, where our Master stylists charge the highest fees.

What is the difference between balayage and ombre?Balayage offers a more organic and natural looking grow-out period, with the gradual shift in colour from darker at your roots to lighter towards your ends. This subtle line of regrowth makes it appear more natural and can give you more time in between colour services. Ombre is a much bolder look and technique, with the highlighted hair being much more concentrated at the ends. This gives a more dramatic effect, removing some of the dimension you would get from a balayage technique. The result is a bolder and more noticeable grow out line, meaning you would need this service touched up more frequently. Your choice between services really depends on the overall look you are trying to achieve (more natural vs. more bold) and the length of time you would like in between your services.
-
What does balayage do to your hair?Balayage is a different highlighting technique that doesn't use foils. It comes from the French word "balayer" which means "to sweep", so it is referring to the way the colour is applied, not to the colour itself. With the main idea being that less is more, balayage allows for a sun-kissed, natural looking hair colour, with softer and less noticeable re-growth. The stylist applies your highlight colour using a free-hand technique, which means they hand-paint the colour directly onto your hair, creating a natural, blended look. Without using any foils to separate your hair, this technique allows for a soft and natural gradiation of lightness along your hair strand, with deeper colours closer to your roots and lighter colours towards your ends.
-
How long does balayage last?Balayage will last between 3 - 4 months on average with proper care in between services. Because it uses a technique that provides a more natural look to the hair, it is less noticeable than other colour services as it begins to grow out. The aim of balayage is to create a natural sun kissed effect, which can be applied to most lengths of hair. This makes it a low maintenance option for anyone looking to get highlights, but not wanting to come in too frequently due to new growth.
-
What is the difference between balayage and highlights?Similarly to ombre, highlights tend to have a more noticeable effect and grow-out line. While not as impactful as an ombre technique, balayage is used to create a more subtle result than traditional highlights. Where highlights use foils to separate the hair strands when applied, balayage uses a more visual, hand painted technique, resulting in a more gradual and natural lightening of the hair, with strands becoming lighter at the ends. With highlights, the hair is covered in colour from roots to ends resulting in a more noticeable grow-out line, that may require more frequent touch ups.
